Barbara Sundstrom studied screenwriting in UCLA’s online professional writing program. Her screenplays won recognition at the Austin Film Festival, the EXPO5 Screenwriting Competition, Screen Craft Screenwriting Competitions, The International Christian Film Festival and the Worldfest Houston International Film Festival. Her screenplay, KENTUCKY INFIDEL, was a semi-finalist for the KAIROS PRIZE from The John Templeton Foundation/Movieguide and was an Official Selection at the International Christian Film Festival.

Barbara was the Founder and Executive Director of Cross Wind Productions, a non-profit organization dedicated to mentoring teen filmmakers while producing dramatic movies that address tough teen issues.

As writer/director and/or producer with Cross Wind Productions, her movies, HOLLY’S STORY, THE SABER, ON THE EDGE, FOSTER CARE, IN THE MIRROR DIMLY, THE GUARDIAN, LAST CHANCE SCHOOL, ADRIFT and the Documentary FREE INDEED won numerous awards including the Adam Award from Sabaoth International Film Festival in Milan, Italy; ten Remi Awards from Worldfest Houston International Film Festival; six Crown Awards from the International Christian Visual Media Association, two Film Awards  from Bayou City Inspirational Film Festival,  seven Official Selections and Best Director nomination by the International Christian Film Festival, the Best Short Film Award at the International Youth Film Festival in Wales, UK,  and two Telly Awards.

Barbara’s films with Cross Wind Productions were distributed through Parables TV, Uplift TV, Christian Cinema and Pure Flix. Her documentary with Cross Wind Productions, FREE INDEED, was released through Right Now Media.

Barbara began her writing career as a professional playwright.  Her adaptation of THE HUNDRED PENNY BOX, a Newbery Honor Book, premiered off-Broadway in the 1998 Ensemble Studio Theatre’s “Marathon of One Act Plays,” alongside those by David Mamet, Joyce Carol Oates and Shel Silverstein.  Barbara’s adaptation was published by Smith & Kraus, Publishers, in EST Marathon 1998:  The One Act Plays.

Barbara Sundstrom received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Baylor University, Waco, TX, and her Master of Arts Degree in Communications from The University of Houston, Houston, TX .
